How do you get guaranteed web site traffic? That’s a good question. Especially if you are like me when I started, I was completely clueless about how to get more traffic to my site.
There are many schools of thought when it comes to getting traffic. I rank them here by order of importance.
1. Pay Per Click (adwords)
2. Search Engine Optimization
3. Affiliate Promotion
4. Social Media Management (web 2.0 - blogs, videos, audios, articles)
5. Offline Promotion
Each category is an entire course on its own. But today, I will talk mainly about the first one - that is Pay Per Click. Why? Because it gives you the most guaranteed web site traffic, meaning you have way more control of how many visitors you get, who they are, what they are looking for when they click your ad and even which city they are from.
The biggest Pay Per Click advertiser is of course, Google Adwords. They account for over 80% of all the money spent of internet advertising in the world.
How does it work? Well, when you search for a keyword phrase “guaranteed web site traffic”, for example. On the right side of the Google search page, you will see some small ads called sponsored links. That’s right, people will pay anywhere from $0.01 to $10.00 per each click that web surfers make on those ads.
So for your ad to show up there, you need to first open an Adwords account. I think you need $50 to start. Then choose the keywords that you want your ad to show up for. Then write your ad. Then decide how much you are willing to pay for each click.
If the keyword you picked is very competitive, for example “make money”, you will find that the price for the click is very high - there are other advertisers who want to get the top positions on the page. So you have to determine which keywords are worth bidding on.
I know what you are probably thinking, what if a million people click my ad in 1 day? Even if I paid $0.01 per click, I would have to pay $100,000!! Don’t worry, you can set the maximum that you want to spend per day. Start with $5 a day if you want. The ad will stop showing after you have spent the full $5 for that day. And if you want to, you can suspend your ads whenever you want.
As I mentioned from before, you can choose which geographic region you want your ad to show, which is very useful if you are a business that is locally based… like “Vancouver Marketing Consultant”.
There are also a ton of tools, “metrics” as they call them that basically turn your advertising into a science. Adwords will track your conversion rates, click thru rates, etc. It can get technical, but you don’t really need to know everything to get started, it will make sense to you once you start using it.
A good friend of mine, Simon Leung, use to be Google’s top guy when they just started adwords. He’s got a good course on how to build an optimized adwords campaign that will get you cheap clicks and make you money. Bottom line, pay per click is the best way to get guaranteed web site traffic.
